Hmm, I hear you can import the csv into keepass2, then you can export that
one into keepassX.
A pain in the bottom but doable, if so.
I used/use Lastpass for quite sometime and I looked in KeePassX but it can
not import the lastpass csv file.
So, it is useless if you come from LastPass.
Yes, this problem was known for me a long time ago with Debian and then never
came back until now with Trisquel.
By the way, I always have to reset my password, it never ever works to login

Dear Trisquel Friends,
I had installed trisquel and loved the speed of this libre distro.
But I experienced an error which I had long time ago with Debian and it is

I sure hope you'll find Trisquel and free libre software satisfying and your

hi everybody;
I just arrived at trisquel a couple of days ago.
I'm using gnu/linux from 2 years until now and i change because of the
philosophy inherent to it and because I like to be/become a power user of the
computer system.
I was using some other distro wich is very known but trough time
Thanks all!
I've been away, but now installed both gnome-shell-extensions and XFCE and
very short tried both. I find GNOME Classic very nice indeed. XFCE seems also
very good, but everything is really tiny. I presume the others handles the

I agree. Over the years, when I wanted a lightweight setup I would use
fluxbox or even window maker. Whenever I tried XFCE certain things didn't
seem to work and the whole thing just didn't seem worth it. In desperation,
during some test one day, after trying many other WMs, I tried XFCE
I use Activities Overview peek-a-boo. A lot.
Personally, I think that while GNOME shell is a great desktop environment in
its own right, and is intuitive for people not used to using a computer, such
as young children, it just doesn't quite work in the way I want it to. I
decided to install XFCE, and it was easy to customise it to be
That's right. The package 'gnome-shell-extensions' contains most added
functionality, Gnome Classic included.
Trisquel looks pretty cool with the Classic mode enabled.
Nvidia it is.
I have to test some of the extensions to see if any of them suits me.
Perhaps the old fruit's machines are not the best to start a free software
career from.
Thanks again!
Gallium is a free driver. NVidia's own driver is proprietary, so Trisquel
won't offer or suggest it.
Gnome 3 has by default only one panel at the top. You can install extensions
and have an application menu and many more tweaks. Just open Gnome Tweaktool.
Thanks! I make progress!
Driver is Gallium 0.4 on NVE7. I don't know what that means though, or which
of the to graphics cards that it drives.
And now I was able to find and start the GNOME shell! (Text on my login
screen is extremely tiny, would never have found it without help).

You can see the driver in System Settings --> Details.
If you installed Gnome Shell, you'll see a new option on the login screen.
It's behind the Trisquel next to your user name.
Thanks for suggestions.
I tried Guest session and a new user. Looks the same - no panel.
I used Synaptic Package handler and searched for gnome shell.
gnome-shell-common was already installed. I installed gnome-shell and
restarted, but can see no difference.

Hello,
I was recently introduced to GNU/Linux and FSF and decided to try Trisquel.
I installed it first on my MacBook (2008) and it looked fine, and I decided
to install it on my MacBook Pro retina (2012). Installation was fine, but
when I log in the Gnome Panel is not visible (and no
Ah, yes. My memory beseeches me. You will need the gnome-session package as
well-- and if you want the 'full' GNOME experience, you can also install the
gdm package and use that over lightdm. (GDM is GNOME's desktop manager-- it
handles logging in to your PC, etc.)
I took a look at Parabola and that's not a direction I want to go. With
Trisquel's Ubuntu base it gives me an OS that I'm familiar with and stays on
the higher end of the reliability scale.
I'm guessing that 3.14+ may be compatible with a future Trisquel release.
3.12 is cool for me as
Latest GNOME? Not a chance.
The newest one you can run in Trisquel 7 (3.12) is not a bad relase at all,

It seems you also need to run (sudo apt-get dist-upgrade) after adding the

To use GNOME 3.12 on Trisquel, you'll need to add the

Thanks JadedCtrl!
Maybe another question or two related to the first...
I like the regular Gnome Shell as I utilize a fair amount of the extensions
from the extensions.gnome.org site. If I install the gnome-shell package
will I be able to add extensions as I would in say Ubuntu Gnome 14.04
Yes, you will be able to use or extensions. You'll need to install the
gnome-tweak-tool package to do so. (sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool)
And sorry, I'm not sure about your second question. I haven't used the
Trisquel gnome-classic shell in quite a while.
Thanks again! I did edit my last post as you were answering I think. Let me
expound a little...
I see in Synaptic that the gnome-shell is 3.10 and I would like to grab 3.14
or 3.16 which I think is a s easy as adding the PPA's but would like to
verify that before I go down a road of

Welcome to the free world.
If you're having difficulties compiling a program it would be helpful to
provide details of the exact nature of that problem. In particular, the
output of the terminal. (And more than just the last line that might end with

My motivation for trying trisquel mini v 7.0 for i686 was specifically two
fold.
One, I'm completely new to compiling and I've been trying to compile to
start with the traditional vi text editor, exvi. I've been experimenting
mostly with virtualized, command line oriented, embedded linux.
..but..but...why?
theres a program called gdm(gnome display manager e.g the login screen)setup
gdmsetup lets you customize your gdm
its under gpl v2 and heres a link:
https://github.com/Nano77/gdm3setup
Trisquel uses LightDM by default, not GDM. (You can install GDM, though,
through the gdm package. Actually a good idea if you're going to use GNOME
Shell, because it causes screen locking to work a bit better.)
you can right click on a folder and select open in new tab
Or just middle-click it.
Hi,
this might help with lightDM:

on the theme.
About changing the colors, or changing the icons, I think it's mostly about
I'm a musician and I've the same problem with audio in everything ehehe now I

A tar file is just an archive. It's not a standard for a software package.
You need to find the instructions for compiling and follow those
instructions. Not everyone uses Autoconf. CMake, in particular, has become
quite popular recently.
Right, and there's no standard for that. At all. Asking how to install a
tar.gz file is exactly as vague as asking how to install a Zip file. The
archive could contain anything.
That's why you have to read the README or INSTALL or similarly named file
that comes with the program. Most
Don't I get my gnome upgraded when I install the latest upgrades ?
No, GNOME gets upgraded between releases. Otherwise the Ubuntu developers
would have to deal with breakages.
It looks just the way it looks by default which is no where near the result
we see in the link :(
You need to
Ubuntu 14.10 is not the same as Ubuntu 14.04. These are two completely
different releases. Trisquel is based on Ubuntu 14.04. The instructions you
linked to erroneously say Ubuntu 14.04 at one point, but they are only for
Ubuntu 14.10. (Looking at the PPA they recommend, it doesn't have any
i found a tutorial here for ubuntu 14 as trisquel is based on ubuntu 14 it
should work:
http://itsfoss.com/install-kde-plasma-ubuntu-1410/
but be sure to only install packages that you trust and its
best to compile form source
i also found this on the official kde site:

There always isn't a configure file to run. If there is a configure.ac or
configure.in present, you need to runautoconf
and then follow the normal procedure.
Besides that, always read the README.

So we can end the wild goose chase around build-essential here... It would be
much faster if we knew from beginning what you're trying to do. :)
Packages depend on other packages. In order to find out what packages package

Now, note
It's kinda assumed these days everybody has an internet connection.
build-essential (note the dash and the lack of s at the end) is required for
compiling packages from source, not for a simple install. I guess the
documentation you've been following isn't too useful.
I don't know about this Eli the computer guy. All you need to learn in order
to use any debian based distro is:
aptitude search name of the program
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install name of program
sudo apt-get remove --purge name of program
sudo dpkg -i name of the

autoclean too!
On debian for instance learning the basics of gnucoreutils is a must. You
cannot not learn how to copy or remove files and folders in Debian. example:
Just to have touchpad tap click you need to create a file
70-synaptics_custom.conf and copy that file to
what about apt-get autoremove?
also all the gnucoreutils programs like ls rm cp etc
Yes I want the build essential packages but I do not have internet and the

do not have build essential.

There is also an experimental extension developed by Mozilla called Shumway
