I assume you have an ATI GPU. Yes, it will work. The libre kernel has a patch that fixes the resolution. Debian's kernel is deblobbed but it doesn't contain this patch. So, yes, install the libre kernel jxself packages. cheers

Updating the libre kernel will give you the correct resolution. It won't give you the proprietary firmware **required** by ATI for video acceleration, so your GPU will basically stay a superhot and extremely slow furnace. Take a look at the h-node website in the future when you buy. cheers

Probably the easiest solution with games that exhibit this issue is to write launch scripts that contain the resolution reset command at the end. Detecting the docking station is a lot trickier. You can check dmesg and the connect it and recheck dmesg to see what it saw. Other parts of the

If it's an AMD video card, you could try removing it and using the integrated graphics controller instead. Would be especially helpful if your CPU is an Intel CPU with Intel integrated graphics, as those are the best GPUs for Linux-libre.
