Hi, friends!

Sorry for this very late reply, I've been really quite busy these last two
weeks and have only performed some minimal Trisquel tasks regarding new users
and similar stuff.

I've read your messages and I'll work into this request, at first I was going
to reply that it would be better to add new languages when we make the
planned switch to a new site but it doesn't make sense to lose all or part of
this energy of yours in the meantime: we can import all Russian content along
the other texts once the new site is ready.

In short, I'll enable Russian support soon, there are a couple of quirks that
we have to work on first but then we'll add the means for you to start
working on translations.

Thanks for your continued support and your patience :)

I can start to translate, thisn't problem. The problem - I cannot add new
language to the website. It looks that this page is done with Drupal. I
suspect that only website's admin can add a new language in Drupal interface.

When you are using youtube-dl or downloading videos from youtube, you are

Yes, all proprietary software is a problem, but invasion of privacy is integral
to Google's business model. We should assume that any proprietary software

He said DRM'd so I thought there was a problem with the download. That got us
on the long winding road down the path. While I don't see any big issue with
youtube-dl, I admit JavaScript could be a problem with privacy.

Yes, although in this case the distinction does not make much of an ethical
difference. DRM and proprietary JavaScript are both bad for freedom. Even if
the proprietary JS executed by youtube-dl does not constitute DRM, we should
not recommend it in this forum.

You touch on the larger problem, which is that these companies have so much
control over this information that we cannot access it without giving one of
them more power. avideo > youtube-dl > satan > youtube.com, but the only
long-term solution I see is to decrease our reliance on companies like Google
for information, even if that makes it difficult to access some information,
just as we reject some conveniences that are unavailable without proprietary
software.

Yes, we are repeating ourselves.

I don't mind how you call it but I didn't understand you at first. We should
use precise language. Calling it DRM lost me. Those files are not restricted
in any way. I can download them, watch them, copy them and share them all I
like. Youtube has no control over how or when I watch those files.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Why Trisquel website isn't translated into Russian?

Non-free JavaScript is not DRM.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Why Trisquel website isn't translated into Russian?

2018-06-12 Thread intheforest
..So those "recordings" that have a signature meant to be used to prevent
users to download a video are examples of DRM system that Youtube built to
prevent users from viewing media. You should consider it DRM. You are forced
to use YouTube's proprietary software.
Well, videos of группы Ноль have that 's' signature, which can be
scrambled with function, which is barely possible to wright. They do not
conceal a video address, they conceal a thing that can help people to get a
video. So you need to run YouTube's JavaScript in your browser or use
youtube-dl, which does not by-pass possible restrictions - it simply makes a
use of non-free software to "help" you enjoy a video. Beware, mate!

Re: [Trisquel-users] Why Trisquel website isn't translated into Russian?

These recordings are for sale on Apple's Itunes.

I think it's a lesser evil to use youtube-dl and download them from Youtube.

Do Not Feed The Google!

Re: [Trisquel-users] Why Trisquel website isn't translated into Russian?

2018-06-12 Thread enduzzer
It has no bearing. "DRM" that is easily by-passed has failed, so it's
recommended to break it. Only DRM that is impenetrable or unbreakable is an
issue.

You need to break Content Scrambling in order to watch or rip a DVD movie.
Doing so with libdvdcss is not an issue with freedom.

But I wouldn't call it DRM (with Youtube). It's obfuscation. All they do is
try to conceal the video address.

DRM is something that hurts your freedom by preventing to copy something
you've legitimately bought or acquired.

The only questionable thing is the use of proprietary code that is runj in
the browser or terminal to view or download the video.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Why Trisquel website isn't translated into Russian?

2018-06-12 Thread intheforest
Recordings do not :) You are right. But in order to download them you have to
run proprietary software that will deal with signatures found in some files.
(just as explained here) this is DRM. You can not get a copy of a video file,
because YouTube won't allow you to do so.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Why Trisquel website isn't translated into Russian?

2018-06-12 Thread enduzzer
You conflate things. These recordings have no DRM. Once downloaded, they can
be used as you wish. No restrictions in them. They can be copied or played
back on any device.

Proprietary JavaScript does not make it DRM.

Russian language is the official working language in UN. There about 291M
native Russian speaking people around the World. In Russian world there are a
lot talented programmers, engineers, 'linuxoids' etc. Due to recent political
tensions last time, as far I know government of Russian Federation looking
for IT technologies replacement. Even they started to own OS ReactOS (I am
not sure that this is 200% of Russian development, but government do some
invest there, but doesn't matter right now). Also they using some GNU/Linuxes
stuff for military purposes. Only idiot will install Windows on the detecton
missile systems :-).

So I think Triquel website could be translated into Russian. Community can
get a lot of talented people or those are interested in free software
philosophy. Is there any technical obstacles to do this? Or any other reason?

For example my native language is Russian, but not living in RF since my
birth. I could at free time (yes! yes! free time is very limited resource :-)
) start to translate pages 1 by 1.

Thanks for your read.
