Meredith-owned KCTV outsourced sports a few years ago. I remember seeing a report a little while back from The ex-Chief that some of KCTV's executives have moved to WGCL, so I guess that was one of the ideas they brought with them. I'm kind of surprised I don't hear about this sort of thing
