Re: [TV orNotTV] Hulu says g'day to Neighbours
I imagine that this isn't really costing Hulu a great deal since the programme's costs are already covered by Australia, and particularly the British sales. So even allowing for a subtle resetting of the storylines to let new viewers in, the market for the show is limited and even a very modest fee from Hulu makes sense. Because Hulu/Netflix/Amazon don't really have to worry about ratings, there's an interesting model here that could mean that some very niche overseas programming could be sold to on-demand services for very modest returns. A few extra dollars for a show that was never going to be sold to a network, and a few viewers for whom Hulu or whoever suddenly become essential. I know The Long Tail has been proved wrong in some cases, but there is some truth in it. I know it's going off-air soon, but it would have cemented by subscription to whichever streaming service in the UK had offered The Colbert Report, because nobody offers it here (OK - I can *buy* it on iTunes).
