If you working on a bay ( 72 right?) try and find some foam from a Vanagon. It
is wider that than any bay foam and the thickness would be just right. I
remember my grandparents replacing some foam bedding in their full size RV and

Please remember that just because they are hydraulic lifters and that the
rockers do not move does not mean that all is well.. most of these vans
have excessive preload on the lifters and the stuff is flat worn

well, i was able to get that bracket attached by
putting a long screwdriver through both holes and
forcing them to line up, then had to hit the screw
through with a hammer. it worked, and seems to be all
good, but i'm still annoyed that i had to do it at
all. i bought the engine stand
