Nick - We are talking c#/vb.net here not VB. - in vb.net everything is
strongly typed (it is managed code and compiles to msil and so has to !) -
yes you can get away with not defining and it taking the default of string
but no one does that (do they ??) ...

Strange
Cache isn't exactly putting a new face on an old product. The inverse
is probably the truth here. They are putting an old face (PICK Basic)
on a new (sort of) product, Cache.
Thanks,

Actually it would be to their advantage to do both, give it a new front end
and give it a new name. Heck lets start calling the programming language
UV.NET and really get on the band wagon. :-)

I should perhaps put this on the U2C list, but I'll second some of
Tony's impressions of Cache'. I am starting a new venture (adventure)
and have selected Cache', using their MV tools as well as their AJAX
tools, for the platform.
In my case, I have done a few talks here and there in the past
Jerry,
UV.COM, so it sounds more business-like that VB.Net. :)

I thought Cache was the descendant of MUMPS. If so, it is at least as
old as Pick.
If you don't want to use their own 'Zen' object stuff, can you use
whatever you want? C#, VB, Java ?
How does it like ODBC, ADO or other methods of getting to the Cache
data?
We've all had our days hemmed into a proprietary environment.
I hope I'm wrong for the sake of my comrades like Dawn, but
Hi Baker -- good points and questions.

Since Cache' has a development platform, like all MV systems have,
there is a p-machine side (like all
Earlier this year we began seeking expressions of interest in running the U2125
class (UniVerse/UniData BASIC Programming) in New Zealand, and got enough
responses to go ahead. However, due to budgetary limitations, the requested
timeframe was pushed out to July 2007.

Ray,
NZ Defence Force will have at least two, possibly three attendees.
These are all Wellington-based civilian employees, so we would prefer
Wellington.
Looking forward to it
