BTW, if you're using AE, you could also invoke the Editing Values
capability by typing EV on the line with the multivalues you wish to
edit.

What version of UniObjects are you using for .NET versus the VB6 client?
There is should only be one version and one instance of UniRPCD on the

really *bad* idea.
You also have to be using the correct client for that
Sorry Doug no light to shed on the core, the problem with a core is that it
also dumps the constant lists of the code which is why you seem to get every
error under the sun in there.
However just to say I have had experience of strange errors in uniobjects in
the past on heavily used systems,

Mark Olarte's post to use AE in EV mode is a big help. Thanks Mark!

I think Bruce must in ECLTYPE P if he is using the [] wild cards, so he will
have to convert to ECLTYPE U to use the EVAL keyword (i.e. lIST or list ...)

Or simply use a lower case LIST (i.e. list) to force it to ECLTYPE U for
that one statement. This works for list ..., select ..., etc. This is a
VERY useful way to use U flavored syntax in a P environment.
There is a similar command for compiling basic programs. Make the first line

Our new machine has a DLT tape carousel system. Since it should just be
backing up aix data files, so long as we don't access the files during the
backup, there shouldn't be any issues with that type of tape, right?

Hi Susan
UniObjects.net is the .Net version of UniObjects (sic) - that exposes a the
native MultiValue features all nicely wrapped into classes. For details,
take a look at my primer 'Writing your First UniVerse Application' on the
U2UG site. That walks you through UniObjects.Net and VB.Net
Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but UniVerse has been stopped (i.e.
completely shut down) when you took that tar? Remember that type 30 files
keep their header information in shared memory until UniVerse is closed
down, so any tar whilst UniVerse has the file open (even if quiescent) may

That will work on my UD system, in PICK mode (using the UD parser).

There's a dbpause / dbresume command on unidata that looks like it
would make backups safer:
dbpause is a UniData system-level command that blocks most updates to
the database made in a UniData session. Any updates made from the
operating system level are not blocked. You can use this feature to
However just to say I have had experience of strange errors in uniobjects in

We used these for years. No problems - except the tape loader itself... They
work well especially if you have a fast disk sub-system.
It's more the software that you are using and how it handles open files and
locking them. It's been too long since I've set one of these up on Aix but

Roger,
It is very suspicious that the file size 1,073,741,312 is 512 bytes less
than 1 GB (1,073,741,824). I would look at ulimit on the new machine
- perhaps ulimit is set to 1 GB or some other size limiting factor
caused the file to be truncated during the move.
Hope this helps!

If your system supports filesystem snapshots, a really effective means is to:
1) dbpause the database
2) take file system snapshot of database
Roger,
First of all, that doesn't look like a type 30 file to me.
1,048,576 -rw-rw-rw- root sys 1,073,741,312 (same as the fsize).
That's a file - at version 10 a type 30 file is a directory at the OS
level, so I would expect to see something like drwxrwxrwx for the
permissions, and
Thanks for asking the question Susan, I learned a lot also.

Eugene,
I'm sure others will have a longer list, but for starters:
1.The structure of dictionary items is completely different.
2.You lose the ability to expand the print job numbers beyond

Best wishes,
