[U2] Dataflo Unidata TCL and the INV file

2007-01-12 Thread Bruce Ordway
Hi,

Anybody familiar with Dataflo running on Unidata?
I'm tryng to view a list of records from INV am having trouble with my
TCL.
What queries I've tried only return partial info.
What I need is a combination of the info returned by the two queries
below:

*** INV query ***
LIST INV WITH F0 = 302618 F4 F9 F8
INV... INVENTORY CODE. BIN QUANTITY... BIN LOCATION...

302618 SK

   SV

   VR

1 record listed
  INV,SV query

LIST INV,SV WITH F0 = 302618 F4 F9 F8
INV... INVENTORY CODE. BIN QUANTITY... BIN LOCATION...

302618 14. 67C

1. 44B

1 record listed

***

i.e. What I want to see is this:

INV... INVENTORY CODE. BIN QUANTITY... BIN LOCATION...

302618 SK 14. 67C

   SV 1. 44B

   VR
1 record listed

**

Can somebody show me how to query INV correctly?

Thanks,

Bruce Ordway

P.S.

I find INV to be the most confusing part of my MV world.
I'd like to hear any insights/comments on INV.

Anybody familiar with Dataflo running on Unidata?

I don't know the application specifically, but just looking at the
commands you've entered it appears that INV is a multi-level data
file. This means that basically you have two data tables sharing one
dictionary. For what you want to do, translates between the files
might do the trick but I would suspect that with what appear to be
multivalues there's probably more complexity involved than simple
translates to make this happen.

Kevin,

It's MV alright, but there is something I don't understand about this

That's why I was hoping a someone familiar with the app might be

I've got a work around using two Query Builders to export and then using
sub queries in Access.

BTW here's the dirctory structure:

\dbms\live\DATAFLO\INV\
|_INV
|_SV

INV has a dictionary
Some inventory data for a part is stored in INV and some in SV.
I can't figure out how to pull data from both in one query.
I also can't figure out why this was ever broken up this way.

Thanks,

Bruce

2007-01-12 Thread Mecki Förthmann

Bruce,

you will need dictionaries with T-codes (translate) in the dict of the
INV file!

If there aren't any, you may need to create them.
If you can't create new dict items, try EVAL
I.e. LIST INV F4 F9 F8 EVAL TSV;X;;4 COL.HDG INVENTORY CODE EVAL
TSV;X;;9 COL.HDG BIN QTY EVAL TSV;X;;8 COL.HDG BIN LOCATION

Hope that will work.

RE: [U2] Dataflo Unidata TCL and the INV file

2007-01-12 Thread Bill Haskett
Bruce:

I'll give you a quick view from a PICK perspective. It is normal, and
natural, to allow data files to share a dictionary. In PRIME one simply
created two separate data files, one dictionary and modified the (VOC) entry
of each to point to the shared dictionary like:

INV
001 F
002 \dbms\live\DATAFLO\INV\
003 \dbms\live\DATAFLO\D_INV

SV
001 F
002 \dbms\live\DATAFLO\SV\
003 \dbms\live\DATAFLO\D_INV

Here you can reference each file by:

LIST INV

...and

LIST SV

In PICK this was implemented a little differently; a file was created with
both a dictionary and a data portion (the data being under the
dictionary), then a new data portion was created under the shared
dictionary. The structure is exactly as you described. References to each
would be:

LIST INV (or you can LIST INV,INV but listing INV defaults to itself)

...and

LIST INV,SV

Generally, these structures are built when both the INV and the SV files
contain the exact same file structure. You indicate this isn't the case
so...C'est la vie.

When you use F. dictionaries these are generally U2 default dictionaries
for attribute numbers; thus F1 lists attribute 1, F2 lists attribute 2, and
so forth. In your case, again, this isn't the case. So, you need to build
appropriate dictionaries that extract the data you want then list them in
the query. For instance, copy F4 to INV_CODE, F9 to BIN_QTY, and F8 to
BIN_LOC, then, assuming F4 references field# 4, your INV_CODE would be
changed to look like:

INV_CODE
001 I The inventory code from the SV data file
002 TRANS ( INV,SV, @ID, 4, X)
003
004 INVENTORY CODE
005 15L
006 M

Now you can:

:LIST INV INV_CODE BIN_QTY BIN_LOC

Hope this helps.

Bill

I'm tryng to view a list of records from INV am having
trouble with my TCL.

What queries I've tried only return partial info.
What I need is a combination of the info returned by the
two queries below:

*** INV query ***
LIST INV WITH F0 = 302618 F4 F9 F8
INV... INVENTORY CODE. BIN QUANTITY... BIN LOCATION...

302618 SK
   SV
   VR

1 record listed
  INV,SV query **

LIST INV,SV WITH F0 = 302618 F4 F9 F8
INV... INVENTORY CODE. BIN QUANTITY... BIN LOCATION...

302618 14. 67C
1. 44B

1 record listed

***

i.e. What I want to see is this:

INV... INVENTORY CODE. BIN QUANTITY... BIN LOCATION...

302618 SK 14. 67C
   SV 1. 44B
   VR

1 record listed

*

Can somebody show me how to query INV correctly?

Thanks,

Bruce Ordway
Viking Engineering

P.S.

I find INV to be the most confusing part of my MV world

Re: [U2] Dataflo Unidata TCL and the INV file

2007-01-12 Thread MAJ Programming
Not for nuthin' but if F0 represents the primary key, would you be better
served with this statement:

LIST INV 302618 F4 F9 F8

as it will go to that record directly instead of searching through the
entire file.

My 1 cent

P.S. upon further review, you are addressing 2 data sections.

Did anyone else ever work with their RAD package named THOR?

They were Microdata Reality distributors and I later worked on a
conversion from Reality to Prime Information.

I remember trying to convert Escom's Distribution package from Pick to
Pr1me Information over a very long weekend, back in 1979. One glitch
being them using a user exit in place of regular input statement.

Didn't Escom have a 'sister' company called Devcom? But then again,
Devcom never produced anything of consequence. ;-)

Sure we have worked on it for a few years with a client here in the Denver
area. What are you looking for?

RE: [U2] Dataflo missing Workfile

2005-12-20 Thread David Wolverton
Wow -- although Nabble may be snatching the content right out of our List,
it's a pretty nice interface! And the U2 group is like the 5th most active
list in databases (much like CDP has always been pretty active, I guess)

As for this issue, it's vendor specific -- your vendor has built Work Files
they expect to have a certain naming convention -- you can probably find
them by searching your data account file - in our case, the works files are
called HRPS.WORK.portno. The only time users have had problems are where
the VOC entry for the Work File existed, but the actual underlying file did
not. But as the use of work files is not defined by the O/S or the Database,
but more by the application, you need another DataFlo user or vendor to
confirm what files should be in place. Caveat! But if you editted the VOC
for that file, and looked for the DICT and DATA it wants, one of them (or
both) are gone from the hard drive.

This happened in our work files from time to time -- we actually made our
work file open logic handle this case by removing the offending VOC and
rebuilding from scratch - but who would pre-anticipate the VOC entry
existing while the underlying database file was gone?!? It just happened
enough to that they made the change in our product.

Subject: [U2] Dataflo missing Workfile

A month ago the UPS on our UNIX box running Dataflo with Preview/Wintegrate
went out. After repairing and coming back up, we noticed that users on port
(UDTNO) 8 and 18 got the message Cannot Update without WORKFILE - Inquiries
Only at the bottom of their screen. Is there a way to restore the
workfiles for these ports and how do I know what their names are? is there
a TCL command or a PV command to reset workfiles? Any help would be
appreciated!!

RE: [U2] Dataflo missing Workfile

2005-12-20 Thread Steve Moore
Here is a copy of techtip 1149SDG from Epicor's eportal support website.
I think it describes your problem.

HTH,

Steve

Summary: Finding/Fixing the 0 length work file in unidata
Detail: work file

**
*** Tech Tip No.: 1149
*** Summary: Finding/Fixing the 0 length work file in unidata

**

Finding and fixing the work file Size 0 problem in Unidata.

Problem: the user logs on to DATAFLO without a problem but when they go
to an Entry screen PREVIEW informs them that they are missing a workfile
and the screen will be Inquiry Only.

1. Find the Port# or User# :

The user must stay logged on. If you are at the terminal with the
problem, go to TCL. If you can't,
run the report List Active Users (SYS-U-20), to get the port number.
The PV Port# is the first field.

:DW.WHO

User Name : John Doe
User Number : 055
Account Name : DF-SERVICE

TERM Driver : WINTEGRATE.GUI
TERM Type : vt100
PTR Driver : Tech-Support
SLAVE Driver :

My User# is 055.
Note: The User# is 3 digits, you may need to pad the front with 0's.

2. Find the path to the Workfile. If you save it in the Clipboard you
can save some typing by pasting it in later.

:ED VOC PV055

The help file 'AE_DOC', is not available. Please ask your
system administrator to put a file pointer in your VOC file.

Top of PV055 in VOC, 3 lines, 58 characters.
*--: P
001: LF
002: /dbms/live/DW-GLOBAL/PV055
003: /dbms/live/DW-GLOBAL/D_PV055
Bottom.
*--: EX
Quit PV055 in file VOC unchanged.

3. Go to the unix shell and find the problem file, it will be the one
that is size 0, usually this is L1, use !sh to go to the shell and cd to
go to the DW-GLOBAL directory (your path may be different then the
example), and ls -lasi to list the files:

:! sh
$ cd /dbms/live/DW-GLOBAL/PV055
$ ls -lasi
total 332
-- Size
8913 2 drwxrwxr-x 2 dw dw 1024 Jun 27 08:34 .
7392 246 drwxrwxr-x 3090 dw 117760 Oct 2 11:05 ..
8914 8 -rwxrwxr-x 1 dw dw 4096 Dec 19 1997 L0
8915 8 -rwxrwxr-x 1 dw dw 0 Dec 9 06:56 L1 ===
8916 8 -rwxrwxr-x 1 dw dw 4096 Dec 8 10:24 L2
8917 8 -rwxrwxr-x 1 dw dw 4096 Dec 7 11:16 L3
8918 8 -rwxrwxr-x 1 dw dw 4096 Oct 23 11:04 L4
8919 8 -rwxrwxr-x 1 dw dw 4096 Apr 29 1998 L5
56999 4 -rwxrwxr-x 1 dw dw 2048 Jun 27 08:34 L6
8920 32 -rwxrwxr-x 1 dw dw 16384 Dec 1 05:58 PV055

4. In this example the problem file is the L1 file (note the size is 0).
Copy another work file to it using the unix copy (cp) command:

cp /dbms/live/DW-GLOBAL/PV055/L2 /dbms/live/DW-GLOBAL/PV055/L1

5. List the files again to make sure the file has a size:

$ ls -lasi
total 332
8913 2 drwxrwxr-x 2 dw dw 1024 Jun 27 08:34 .
7392 246 drwxrwxr-x 3090 dw 117760 Oct 2 11:05 ..
8914 8 -rwxrwxr-x 1 dw dw 4096 Dec 19 1997 L0
8915 8 -rwxrwxr-x 1 dw dw 4096 Dec 9 06:56 L1
8916 8 -rwxrwxr-x 1 dw dw 4096 Dec 8 10:24 L2
8917 8 -rwxrwxr-x 1 dw dw 4096 Dec 7 11:16 L3
8918 8 -rwxrwxr-x 1 dw dw 4096 Oct 23 11:04 L4
8919 8 -rwxrwxr-x 1 dw dw 4096 Apr 29 1998 L5
56999 4 -rwxrwxr-x 1 dw dw 2048 Jun 27 08:34 L6
8920 32 -rwxrwxr-x 1 dw dw 16384 Dec 1 05:58 PV055

6. You are done, exit the unix shell to return to Unidata.

$ exit
