I can confirm this bug, but only for desktop icons.
In media:/ view, the media names are shown correctly.
I use Dapper w/ KDE 3.5.5 all up to date.

I tried the posted patch and I rebuild the gnome-
vfs2_2.16.1-0ubuntu2.dsc package. The result now is that I do not see
the blank icons anymore, but I still cannot really use the network. Only
two hosts show up, while there really are many hosts... Initially I

Dino, is this when using the live CD/clean install or on a ungraded
system? If the sound changes after logging in, it could be faulty user
settings, or problems with esd, the sound daemon used by gnome.

I have the same issue, where in Dapper it was even in the menus. After
updating, or from a fresh install (I tried both) that menu item has been
remove and when trying to install the gnome applet in the panel, nothing
appears at all.

After a few emails I discovered that there is a bug in the version of
the Trident drivers that ship with Ubuntu and a fixed version is
available (thanks to Alan Hourihane) from the following url...

After applying the workaround that I posted in bug #65662 (changing
/etc/dbus-1/system.d/hal.conf), USB sticks started showing up with
