I am being hit hard by this. After playing around with gconf, I cannot
boot anymore. The initial output showed that /bin/sh cannot be executed.
I booted with a Live CD and corrected the symlink for /bin/sh, which
linked to dash. After linking it to bash, I still have the following

I'd like to take this a bit furthuer. I'm on a LAN (3 actualy, 2 with
dnsmasq and one with a full ICS failover system) where we have
integrated DHCP+DNS in such a way that that the dhcp server can give the
client a certain IP address based on what name the client says it has.

Ok, I was able to reproduce this in an edgy chroot.
It seems to be an issue with recommended packages, because:
$ LC_ALL=C sudo aptitude install kile
produces the same output as you, whereas
$ LC_ALL=C sudo aptitude --without-recommends install kile
works.
Besides,
$ LC_ALL=C sudo apt-get install
Although the errors seem to be to do with an input device, it's worth
trying the alternate Kubuntu iso for your laptop. This is available at:

I also have this problem. It is very strange and I cannot track it down
to something as specific as a style.
On a fresh install of kubuntu edgy I installed firefox to try and get
Google Calendar working.
It worked for a while and sometimes it still does work. It seems to

I booted ubuntu desktop 6.10 i386 cd, selected the Czech language
and started ubuntu... then I clicked install icon and continued with
installation...
for installation target I chose manual partition selection and then I created
2 new partitions (on unpartioned free space)
