I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 (amd 64) all up-to-date and firefox 2.0.0.13 on two

when attempting to install hardy heron, it fails during swap space creation

The too large resolution is a known bug (it's occurring on one of my
laptops) and it's reported somewhere else. Upload the output of "sudo
lspci -vvnn" of both machines and let's wait. You could try to boot from
each version of Ubuntu that comes out and see if the bug is fixed

In all my testing I usually remove "quiet splash" to watch the boot
messages which explains why I was unable to reproduce it. I also found
this does indeed affect x86_64 as well. Because I run development
kernels I never have the "quiet" option enabled - hence my not being

I see that the diff I posted got changed by the launchpad software. It looks
like embedded whitespace is deleted. The indentation is off
and indentation is all important in python programs.

I can confirm this as well.
It worked fine initially when I upgraded to Heron (it didn't work at all
in Feisty), but after the recent kernel updates, it no longer works.

I've reinstalled hardy. I needed firefox, and i've some troubles with
compiz & firefox 2. I can't reproduce this bug now, but i can assert
there were any memory leak or high cpu usage. It just freezed.

Did you change both lines in /usr/lib/python2.5/site-
packages/jockey/xorg_driver.py when you made the changes or just the one
suggested by Thorsten earlier? I don't know when you read the error
report and did your test.
If you made them both you might try it again against the reinst

Thanks, Leann, the 'all_generic_ide' option fixes it for me. My HD still
shows up as /dev/sda rather than /dev/hda (which isn't a problem in
itself), but a 'cat /dev/urandom > ~/test' no longer clogs up the
system. I'm attaching the dmesg that I get after I've booted with
'all_generic_ide', in case
