I've got a related problem with an eMachines M6811 laptop. From one
kernel version to the next, wireless completely stopped to work. The
device is properly registered, but neither does it show any networks nor
do manual connection attemps succeed. Oddly, the name of device is now

linuxwireless.org, I just succeeded with compat-wireless-2008-05-07, and

I can confirm this on a Sony Vaio-TZ170N running a fresh install of

For my system, the problem has been cured by the recent update to the kernel: I
am now running
Linux ubuntu 2.6.24-17-rt #1 SMP PREEMPT RT Thu May 1 16:23:33 UTC 2008 i686
GNU/Linux
and the sound device (VIA 8237) is now correctly recognised and both ALSA and
pulseAudio servers generate sound.
I know this is a bug in the system, I have reported this weeks ago, and
not getting any real answers. Is there any way you fix this bug. And
please make it for the Ubuntu 7.10 version, and not a new version that
is only for the new versions of Ubuntu.

I think XSane puts some size controls inside the postscript data that
overrides my -sPAPERSIZE=a4 option. If I edit the ps file, and changes the
occurrence of letter to a4 like in:

I confirm, the fix in hardy-proposed fixes this bug, I can't reproduce
