I had have the same problem. Tryed isnstall via Update Manager and the
Alternate CD but didn't work.
After disabling the Assistive Technologies installation works fine.
I didn't have Orca running at start.

I keep having problems with my Samsung q45 ( uname,dmesg and lspci
attached ) : the iwl4965 works always fine if I boot with XP
professional and also from Ubuntu with many routers and SSID but at home
it won't get the signal of my own router which is perfectly fin

I just checked, and it is not possible to install the Debian unstable
(Sid) binary package for LyX without modification, because of a
dependency-- libboost-filesystem1.34.1. So the prevu way is the

3D desktop effects and xserver-xgl is installed. This is true even with the
latest beta drivers (173.08). Apparently xserver-xgl prevents direct rendering:

Having the same problem. AFAIR this started to happen when I once used
the gtk-qt-engine and kde-Dialogues. Don't use them anymore and upgraded
to Hardy, but the problem remains.

I am running mythbuntu 8.04 and have been regularly applying patches and
rebooting about weekly. I just started getting the "Failed to initialize
HAL!" error yesterday after patch and reboot, so something changed
recently... I've been running same system/config since Gutsy and have
never seen this
I have two machines with KDE 4.0.4 and can reproduce this on one.

I've done a bit more troubleshooting, and narrowed the problem down
some. I think it has to do with the order system services are started
relative to PAM, or some permissions setting within PAM. Here's why:

Same problem here.
Running nedit on AMD64 Hardy, forwarded through ssh to i386 Gutsy xserver.
Ctrl+c segfaults 100% of time.
