I'm invalidating this one. It turns out that out of the 4G of ram in
the system there was one bad bit. Since replacing the ram, there hasn't
been an issue.

run the following 4 commands:
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
I was supposed to see a file to delete at this point but I did not so I
just ran the final command.

Hi,
This may not be a bug. I found a solution on the web. The fix was to
run the following 4 commands:

don't use the program anymore it is useless compared to windows
equivalents so I use those for now
