I tried the nvidia-glx-180. No luck, instead of a black screen I got the ubuntu
splash screen right, but when I log in I got background color screen with
horizontal lines(see screenshots, I have my screen rotated). Same problem with
kernel 2.6.27.12 and 13.
So I installed nvidia-glx-177
To solve this bug requires knowledge of how the hda chip in these
notebooks is connected. From what I've been told, it is possible to find
out this information by looking at the .inf files for the audio drivers
for Windows. Are you able to possibly obtain this file and put it up

My problem was a cooked port.
Replaced motherboard under warranty and the problem was fixed.
(Cheap laptop: fried the idiot USB ports again a month later - only
using mouse this time)
