Hi Jeff,
Yes I am getting almost the same result however I'm not aware that there
is another version of the program running. The application crash is
persistent across reboots and I didn't see any version of kpilot running
under the top command. I've incudeld the entire output from gdb...

I've found that the problem was my switch. Unfortunatly it gets broken
by chance while I upgrade my distribution, so I was thinking the main
problem was that upgrade as with 8.04 it was working fine.
I've checked also network level before using ping,
I can confirm the muting issue on my T500 running Ubuntu 9.04. Volume
up/down and brightness up/down work as expected, though.

Having applied all Karmic updates, I received the latest UNR packages.
On reboot, netbook-launcher crashed, so I alt+F2'd to a terminal and
restarted again.

@Coren If it is not possible, what is the goal of this bug ? I
understood the problem was the open with dialog which is not user
friendly when we want to choose the app we want to use to open the file.
If there is no cross-linux desktop API, then perhaps we can cheat and
detect the desktop
