I have found that switching to use wicd rather than network-manager has
improved things greatly. Although, this was in combination of having to
log into my wireless router and disabling TKIP and setting it to use AES
encryption instead. I think changing the router from TKIP is what

Please see LP #203158 for the long-standing fix that would have made
this problem go away, or not pop up at all to start with. Installing
libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio is the proper fix for the issue but it's not
wesnoth's job (or the job of any other SDL application) to fix your
sound setup, sorry.
I can confirm that his bug persists within Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala). I
use a Brother DCP 7010, which is only recognized by both lsusb and sane-
find-scanner when executed as root.
The solution proposed by bastafidli *does not work* in 9.10 !!!

I'm closing this bug since this package isn't supported anymore in
Karmic and anyway this bug was caused by bug 222053 which is now fixed.

The system (Deskpro EN p733) is connected to a Philips 107B monitor.
When I try to change the resolution, ubuntu does not recognise the
display type, but it does offer several resolution variants. If I
select 1024*768 (which suits my old eyes much better than the original)

I agree, I'd have thought there shouldn't be an option for Windows XP on
the grub menu, I would assume it would do the same as a single install
of Ubuntu and boot automatically into the default kernel.
