I also experienced suspend issues with Karmic (and this is the reason
why I updated to Lucid but it did not fix it).
My laptop is a DELL XPS M1330 with an Intel GM965 graphics card.
Jaunty was suspending fine though (problems started with Karmic).

The whole system freezes at random intervals. I cannot determine whats causing
it other than it seems to happen when I am on the internet using Firefox. I

I have not been able to reproduce this problem outside of the current
production environment. And I can't realistically try to run php under
valgrind since these are paying clients, and I can't risk their sites
stability, etc.
