That was very helpful, thank you. It seems that there was a faulty
package in Xubuntu RC, which left a faulty /etc/bash.bashrc with these
lines commented out. When reinstalling packages this file was not
overwritten. I fixed it manually and everything is working now.

I run Ubuntu on a few headless computers with very little RAM and
booting off flash drives. Turning off icons helped immensly. 9.10 is in
all aspects, except GUI, worse than 9.04. If I could, I would have still
be runnig 8.04 today. But sadly one needs drivers...

I'm experiencing ext3 root fs corruption after starting a user space
application. I first noticed it when starting googleearth in Gnome from
a terminal; the prompt returned but almost no commands were found and
the root filesystem had automatically been remounted ro. I suspect

Patch was made against upstream git tag BRASERO_2_29_6, matching the
version in Lucid, and I have verified patch both cleanly applies against
the original tarball acquired via apt-get source -d brasero (using patch
-p0) and against git HEAD (via git rebase).

You did not test SpliX. You do not need to download SpliX from
OpenPrinting, the version supplied by Ubuntu already supports your
printer, and it supports it explicit
