Upgraded from Maverick to Natty. I did not notice any big problems on
Maverick, after upgrading to Natty, I noticed huge packet loss, network
errors and slow network in general.
After blacklisting the modules mentioned by @Scott fixed the packet loss

'compiz --replace' didn't work (no display), so I had to kill -9 gnome-session

I'm glad to hear this is no longer happening with the open source
driver. Since this bug is about the open source driver, I'm closing it.
For the closed source (FGLRX) driver, try updating to the latest version
- if this doesn't help you could consider filing a new bug, although
there is not much
