I'm getting the same in unity (3d). Shutdown results in logout. Shutdown
from login screen results in no action. Only way to shut down is to
press and hold the power button :) or to log back in and shutdown via

artifacts were caused by compiz when I was swtching between viewports
with Ctrl-Alt left/right/up/down. But now I see that dragging a window
within the same viewport causes the artifacting. So was guessing this is
a compiz issue.
Workaround if you got this bug after installing xorg-edgers ppa into Ubuntu
11.10: before system starts choose recovery mode in grub, then choose to
continue normal boot, login into system, and type into terminal:
sudo ppa-purge xorg-edgers
After reboot Unity will work normally.

quite managed to do it correctly. I rebooted, deleted the partition
table, rebooted again and then used gparted in Try Ubuntu to create

The laptop runs very well, but, compared to when it runs windows, the
fan is always at full speed, the laptop gets hot, and battery life is
only the half.
