I just tried grub-ipxe 1.0.0+git-2.149b50-1ubuntu4 in kubuntu precise, and it
installed fine. But after selecting it in grub, and after the usual iPXE

To clarify, IMHO the horrible thing is Nautilus and its truncated
toolbar, and not Ambiance. The Nautilus toolbar looks horrible even with
Adwaita or Radiance, bot the color contrast under that themes is not
that accented as in Ambiance.

Agree. It is also inconsistent with the Unity menu bar, which is still
smooth.
