Crap, I don't have (nor do I intend to) saucy installed; I've tested
against saucy for you by booting the iso from hdd using grub2, but I
can't do that with the 3.12 kernel because I'd need to reboot, and since

When this happens, lightdm shows Invalid password, please try again.
But this is not a password error, here is an extract of
/var/log/lightdm/lighdm.log:
This is still an issue for daily live 20131008, running in Virtualbox,
for ubiquity 2.15.21.
The same error appears in /var/log/installer/debug
(ubiquity:3446): Pango-WARNING **: error opening config file
'/root/.config/pango/pangorc': Permission denied
