Problem description:
On some occasions, when asking Ubuntu to suspend and closing the lid, the
computer stays on and does not suspend. When opening the lid the screen is
black and the computer doesn't seem to respond.

My tests were not very exhaustive. Especially beacuse mainly my wifi was
working on the computer.
If you wish I can test other kernels/drivers, better with 3.13.
The main problem with 3.16 is that VisrtualBox is not working for me,
and I need it.

I'm actually using those branches, along with a couple of others, and
log out still is not working correctly. It's not really clear to me
what is going on. After trying to log out, the unity8 and unity8-dash
upstart jobs are still in the start/running state.

Hi Peter, as you may have seen I didn't bake the fix by myself.
I've just helped @jsalisbury to find the commit which broke the kernel.
I've requested both him and @penalvch to backport the fix to the *ubuntu
kernel, even because canonical is the one in charge to keep the LTS for the
14.04
