device hotplug of vfio devices can lead to deadlock in
I would have thought that the Ubuntu package maintainer would do this,
or am I mistaken? Otherwise I could have filed the bug directly upstream
to begin with. But then again, if I had done that, what would be the
purpose of filing Ubuntu bugs?

That wold also be my guess. Some things you can try that might help:
disable hardware acceleration in the preference and change the video
output. Maybe there is a combination that works better with your
hardware.

going on with your system. Here are some suggestions:
Check all updates are installed? Try proposed updates?
Is this with mouse or trackpad?
Have you checked what gsettings is reporting?
