May the bug be related to the coexistence of python-2 and python-3 on
the same system ?

I have upgraded the kernel to 4.4.0-64-generic . The touchpad is still
not recognized. This seems to be a "permanent regression" from the last
working kernel version 4.4.0-62-generic.

It was not able to find which type of touchpad hardware is installed on
XPS13 DE - 9333. Dell support says that the device is no more covered by
the warranty. Does someone know whether the device is a genuine
Synaptics touchpad or is a "compatible" OEM produc ?
Thanks.

I have now a fresh xenial system on my Dell XPS 13 DE 9333.
The touchpad has been working flawlessly until I upgraded from kernel
4.4.0-62-generic to 4.4.0-63-generic.
With the new kernel the touchpad is not detected at startup. With the
last working kernel the output"xinput list" command was

I am affected by the bug without having upgraded from trusty to xenial.
I simply upgraded from kernel 3.13 to kernel 4.4 maintaining the Trusty
release.
After the kernel upgrade the touchpad of my Dell XPS 13 ( version 9333 -
2014 ) is no more recognized as a valid input source for the xserver.
After upgrading my Trusty system for kernel 3.13 to kernel 4.4 the
touchpad of my XPS 13 9333 (2014) is not working any more.
I have found a possible solution on
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2322413 and I hav thus tried
to install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics.
The apt-get output is:

I have also found a similar behaviour after unlocking the desktop or
after a user switch with return to the original user.4.4.0-38-generic
I am still using Trusty, but my kernel has been upgraded to
As requested by Thaddaeus Tintenfisch, I have reverted to the original
version of files /etc/sudoers and /etc/xdg/autostart/nm-applet.desktop
and I have started a new xfce4 session from my text console. The command
was dbus-launch startxfce4 .
File ~/.cache/upstart/startxfce4.log is attached.

if I am sure that ... it is not quite the same !
I have not yet checked that everything works as expected, when
connecting to wireless networks. I will do that in the next few days.
