Here you go.
I started Xorg with verbosity 6. Notice that mode 1280x1024 @ 75 Hz is
identified as "valid" at lines 572, 728, 1256 and 2199.
xresprobe didn't produce anything when it was started with parameters
"nvidia" and "nvidia lcd", so I started ddcprobe. I hope it will be
helpful.
1. No, I set HorizSync up to 81 during the xserver-xorg configuration process
(according to gtf, hsync must be 80.17 in mode 1280x1024_75.00), and
VertRefresh to 75. But it still has no effect.

My Samsung SyncMaster 931BF does actually support 75 hz screen refresh
rate, but xorg lets me choose only between 50 Hz and 54 Hz. Modification
of /etc/X11/xorg.conf does not help. xorg worked ok on edgy.
