I can confirm this on an up-to-date amd64 hardy install. One bit of
detail is missing from the report (for me, anyway): After step 2 the
multi.ogg file plays and stops very soon but totem doesn't seem to think
it has stopped and continues showing the pause button instead of the
play button. After

Malcom's patch went out of date with the new version of the package but
I've incorporated his corrections plus some others I spotted in this
debdiff against the nagios-plugins_1.4.8-2 version which adds a dpatch
to debian/patches/. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out what [keep
timeout than the
nagios-plugins (1.4.8-2ubuntu1) gutsy; urgency=low

adding a new patches/series file outside the debian directory (see the
last hunk in the debdiff). Is that intentional?
