A workaround is disabling KMS. I edited my /boot/grub/menu.ls adding
nomodeset to the line starting with # defoptions=
Then I had to run sudo update-grub. Now both resume and hibernation work
very well.

I am also hit by this bug on a HP Compaq nx7400 with Intel 945GM.

I can confirm this on kubuntu 8.10. When the ethernet cable is plugged
