Public bug reported:
Situation:
I'm having a hard time with my laptop (an Acer TravelMate 3200). This
laptop has been running Ubuntu from day one (back from the Breezy days).
However, it just doesn't like Hardy.
Symptoms:
Just a random variety of freezes, hangs, lockups (sometimes the cursor

the foot if I feel a little frisky). The day that Linux starts acting
like Windows (it thinks it knows better than the administrator what's
right and
Well, everything has worked fine in Gutsy. I'll give Hardy a go on the
laptop as soon as I can (Saturday I guess) and I will post back. I do
not anticipate any problems (I'd be really surprised If the problem re-
appears in Hardy).

i have a bad habit of fiddling with the sudoers file. since the file
comes with 440 permissions, i first sudo chmod 640 on it. while doing
this in hardy i noticed this:
sudo chmod 640 /etc/sudoers would succeed, but then, any command issued
with sudo would give a
Hopefully I'll find some time to try a daily live .iso during the
weekend. There's no empty/available hd/partition around here, so I
cannot perform a regular installation, just live.
I hope the live session will be enough.

Today i noticed that my cpu usage was quite high (~30%) while doing
nothing cpu intensive. Top revealed that the process eating up the cpu
was actually ksoftirqd. After trying out somethings, I found out that
this is triggered when loading the cx8800 module with modprobe

Yesterday I replaced a dead CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive on my desktop with
a new CD-RW/DVD+-RW drive. I already had a CD-RW/DVD+-RW drive, so now I
have two.
When I booted with the new drive in place, nautilus only showed one of

i feel this might be related in some way.
yesterday i upgraded my server to gutsy rc. since the machine ran samba
shares, i copied over my old share info to smb.conf.
the rest of the machines still run feitsy, mounting the server shares
via fstab as cifs. i now get permission denied on these
after playing around a bit and restarting the samba daemon i got it to
work :)

no, after resetting the smbpasswd and restarting the daemon, it ran
fine... i suspect though that we need an easier way of managing samba
users...
