Just tested the Lucid (10.04.3) Live CD and it affects it as well.
I'm starting to think it's an issue with the battery. I remember getting

crashes, you will see the apport GUI offerring you to report a bug. Upon
accepting to report the crash, nothing happens. The crash data stays in

This might be an apport issue because I just tried it on gedit as well
and it did not continue to the bug filing process on the web UI
(Launchpad) either.
