All of a sudden, I believe as a result of a kernel upgrade, I cannot
play sound via my HDMI output (television). The option is not listed
anymore in sound settings or VLC. Video output on hdmi works fine. The
internal speakers work fine as well.
I have lenovo ideapad u330p.

I can confirm it does work on the previous kernel, 3.19.0-16-generic. It
does not work on 3.19.0-18-generic.

Also GIMP and PDF shuffler have the same problem. So I guess they use the same

I agree with Maximilian Federle (comment #3). This is not the same

In my case, I use my HD tv as a second monitor, to view movies. If I
drag a movie to my tv and put it fullscreen (VLC) it displays

The 'sudo apt-get install --reinstall libxfixes3 libxfixes3:i386' did not work
entirely, it still gave an error as other packages that were to be installed
had unresolved dependencies.
I tried 'sudo aptget

As I don't have synaptic installed, and cannot install via apt-get because of
the messed up dependencies, I cannot solve the problem this way. When I try
