Binary package hint: kate-kde4
In previous versions of Kubuntu (8.04 and before), when doing syntax
highlighting for Python, Kate would classify parenthesis and brackets
((, [, and {) as 'Character', allowing them to be colored differently
than the surrounding text, making
Firefox3 is now staying on line in one computer. Network Manger
has been removed. Network Manager was problematic in general. NM
would not leave ethernet port off. NM would not consistently use
only one preferred wlan port.
Without NM, kppp still does my Internet connection and FF3 is
system, hardware is Sierra AC875
data card, software is Kubuntu 8. Network Manager seems
disabled. Kppp is used to control connect Sierra card.
WIFI is disabled usually. My symptoms are much like his.
Every thing works except Firefox.

No, not duplicate of bug. Users should not have to ever be bothered with off
line mode. Period.
I do not ever use FF off line. Why should FF ever switch off line in my
computer? No other browser I use
Upstream can continue with this off line thing and
continue to lose users.

Of all the applications I use, no other application fails to stay on
line, no other application has automatic shift to off line and manual
shift to on line. MSIE never required me to select line mode, it just
loaded the file, web page or whatever I directed it to. Konqueror lacks
line mode

the problem on the board, the reason i had no sound was that my on board
sound--CM6501 is seen as a usb device. once i had configured the sound to usb
the sound started to work. you probably get this

In my eyes, the #2 thing holding this back are the driver issues. There
is always always always some issue with drivers that causes problems
ranging from annoyances to system-stopping errors. Until this is worked
out, ubuntu (and linux in general) will never be mainstream.
The#1 thing is
I'm having the exact same problem. When I installed the ATI restricted
drivers, it broke the sound, as did upgrading the linux-restricted-
modules.
Selecting the Open Sound System did not fix my problem.

After correctly performing the basic installation on my computer, the
installer initiates the reboot, but instead of taking me to remove the
disk and press enter I ended up with the login screen stating that it
would login as ubuntu in 30 seconds. Manually rebooting from

bug that i haven't run into).

yes, having a way to restrict an apt source so it can't maliciously or
accidentally give you replacements for arbitrary packages would be good
too. but if there were an easy hack to make Software Update look for
filename.changelog in the same directory as package filename.deb,
that would be great
