I am the lead developer of Pidgin. A user came in reporting that on a
fresh copy of mate 24.04 launching pidgin would kill their X session and
bring them back to the login screen.
The user ended up fixing it somehow. They booted from a USB key I guess
and installed pidgin
A patch for this has been merged into Linus's tree and it has been back
ported to the LTS kernels.

needed Ubuntu packages as a front-end step, putting them in an IBM-
internal archive. At build time, reprepro is used to put them in to a
local filesystem repo
The IBM Secure Service Container (SSC) environment uses Ubuntu 20.04 for
zLinux. During our periodic package refresh, apt 2.0.8 caused this
failure in the debootstrap step of our build process:

All the same, perhaps vulkaninfo should issue a warning about vestigial
config if it can find a perfectly usable icd somewhere else! Presumably
it looks for the one supplied by Ubuntu.

That's not quite true, it was assumed and believed until a little while
ago that I had amdgpu-pro installed which I don't and because of that no
one even looked at the problem. Mark it invalid if you like but the

Confirming this is still a problem for 16 LTS. Seeing in our foreman
environment. foreman 1.22.1. Anyone know if there is a workaround? Is
this likely to happen to ubuntu 18 LTS after its gets a bit older?

recent 19.04 installation to 19.10 and the bug occurs after every boot.

I fixed it by adding a few lines in my /etc/default/grub file! (not sure which
exactly which one of the 3 fixed it)
In the line (GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=) I added to the quotes: iommu=soft
processor.max_cstate=5 idle=nomwait
If anyone can explain what they each do/which ones are necessary
Seeing same problem on my xubuntu machine after upgrade to 19.10. I
tried different GDM's (xubuntu, gnome, xfce) and tried different themes
(default, Adwaita, Breeze, DMZ). I have basic Intel graphics card with
minimal capabilities, and machine is used in production so I'm unable to
experiment
