I did some experiment by using different translations for the Calendar
Toolbar, in particular for the long Work week that turns into Semaine
de travail in French and it solves the issue. So my conclusion is that
it is the fact that the toolbar extends beyond the displayable area that
causes the

tests before falling in metacity. The compiz tests result in some video
garbage and when metacity start video is in some unstable state. I see

It's probably worth noting that I also use the Toobar and in French it
doesn't fit and extends beyond the displayable area. If I could, I would
make some changes to the French version, to cut down the Work Week from
Semaine de travail to something smaller and check if it still does it.

Had the same problem loading past step 4 on Ubuntu 9.1 install.
Change SATA mode from ATA to AHCI in bios, reboot Ubuntu saw the Drive ready
for partition.
Hope this helps anybody.

As workaround, the following will solve the problem for the current session.

Tried the trick suggested by Revoltism. Worked really well. Don't forget
that in order to copy or transfer the ISO file to he Home folder, you

Hi, I just followed o.cornu's instructions for alsamixer in Karmic on an
NC10 and I confirm that it does the job for me.
After tabbing, alsamixer shows 'Capture', that I set to 77, 'Ext Mic'
that I set to 67, 'Input So' that should be set to 'Internal Mic' and
'Int Mic' that I also set to 67. I
For what it's worth, I tested on NC10 with Karmic UNR, Skype and Sound
recorder, with an external mic and the 'Auto Select Mic' as Input Source
does the job, both with an external mic and the internal one.

Confirmed since the latest shared-mime-info update in karmic.
Every single file is identified as text/plain.
(The bug seems to be in the mime database since it can also be observed
with the xdg-open

I can confirm this bug (same symptoms) on amd64 with version
1:0.9.16~test6-3-g57e1-0ubuntu1 of the pulseaudio packages.

OK, actually I take that back. After doing an update things are a little
different. Now, using XSane or gscan2pdf either will discover the
scanner immediately. I then try to do a scan and get a short sound like

I have the same issue. Same CanoScan n650u, under 8.10 and now 9.04.
sane-find-scanner appears to find it, and when I open xsane it looks for
the scanner for a long time, then appears to find it (has name of
scanner in titlebar of scan window) but then fails when trying to
actually scan, saying

I upgraded my Inspiron 530 to 8.10 but got an issue with nvidia driver
(173.14.12) seems to be a known bug (conflict with kernel 2.6.27-11). I
will wait to see if DKMS auto installation will work one day, using
generic (not nvidia proprietary driver) is ok for now

in the routing layer. So I downgraded to the unofficial V3.01.31
release. I have the feeling, but It's not a certainty, that since then
the bug disappeared. Of course I did also automated software upgrade of
ubuntu, including corrections for firefox. This could also have
corrected the bug.

high bandwidth SSD disk I'm using. I had to do a full reinstall. Very
bad. Since then, nothing special appeared.

Workaround :
When I turn off the autodetect_ouputs in CompizConfig-General options-Display
settings and if I add 1024x600+0+0 in the outputs it fixes the problem.

I don't think it is an issue for me anymore as I installed Hardy from
scratch quite some time ago. That does not mean the bug is gone but it
does not bother me anymore. However, I do hesitate quite a bit to
upgrade to Ibex.

When i have crossfading active and want to start a radio station (e.g.
http://www.lounge-radio.com/aacplus.m3u) rhythmbox crashes! If i disable
crossfading it works fine!

I gave a try to sudo dpkg -i linux-image-2.6.27-1-generic_2.6.27-1.1_i386.deb
and it seamed to work without all_generic_ide. But I was unable to set the
right resolution for my Dell 2005FPW flat screen. So I reverted to previous
kernel using all_generic_ide
I use 8.04 LTS freshly updated, XP
