My system powered itself down after about 10 hours of operation.
The logs show that it went through the steps to shut down.
The only thing I found in the log that seemed unusual was: 'exiting on signal
15'.
A google search suggested this might be a bug in power management.
It's done it again even with acpi=off.

When I went to write an ISO to it (from Nautilus), I got the message that the
CD appeared to have data on it.
(however, Nautilus offered to blank it, which was nice :)

I can't move files in an FTP window: eg move a file from the FTP window to a

I get an error message about not having permissions, which I don't think is
true as I am able to create and delete files.

2. I tried disabling the Sessions saving options, and logging out, and nack in:

session saving, logged out and back in: metacity
No, I didn't. I performed only the steps I listed.
I've since rebooted, and metacity has launched as normal: the update appears to
have fixed the problem, hence this was a duplicate.

The Search for Files tool (gnome-search-tool) has a drop-down to pick where to
search.
This used to have an entry for 'Filesystem' which allowed you to search
everywhere.
This seems to have been replaced with 'dev'. I don't know what this is.
Nautilus search has the same
I had this problem when I upgraded from Edgy to Dapper. At the time, the
instructions here fixed it for me:

However this time, after performing those steps I still have the problem. In
particular, one step gave me these errors:

When I start my computer up, there are no borders on the windows. I
can't move any windows, I don't have workspaces. Firefox has covered up
the applications menu, and my computer is effectively unusable.

I had this problem with dapper-edgy, and the instructions above (

Now I've upgraded edgy-feisty. The problem has come back, and following the
same instructions has not fixed the problem.

3. Borders appear on all windows and everything seems to go back to normal. I
get a few warning messages about my custom theme, like:
Clearlooks configuration option menuitemstyle is not supported and will be
ignored.

When I rebooted after upgrading, I got a notification bubble about restricted
drivers.
This said 'Click this icon to open thingy preferences'.
I tried clicking the icon in the bubble -- no result.
I noticed the bubble had a pointy bit that pointed to the Applications menu --
I'm still seeing this on Ubuntu 7.04.
