Did a fresh install of gutsy. been trying to get both my monitors
working correctly.
I was able to do it ok in Feisty using nvidia's config tool found in
SysInfo, but it wasn't best, it still had trouble in some areas.
In Gutsy I have been using the screens graphics

I have what comes with gutsy. I don't know if that means its installed
or not. is there a command i can run to see that?
When I go to Appearance PreferencesVisual Effects and select either
Normal or Extra here is what happens:

This is very annoying. I like that ctrl-alt-delete now pops up a screen
to restart or log off instead of going to the Main MenuQuit menuitem,

Warning. I'm a n00b.
This one is a fuzzy error. I was playing arend with compiz. It was
giving me a 7 sided cube, so I went to the gnome workspace
panelpreferences and lowered my workspaces to 1. or at least I thought
so. Could have been 0, it went so fast.
The bottom
The GNOME failsafe session wont work.
I am however able to login to KDE.
Unfortunately I like GNOME.

I use gnome. Right, its the entire display.
It has been a bit subdued in the last day, however, to be fair, I have
been trying to cover all angles messed a lot with my monitor hardware
settings connection. Perhaps the rapid pixel change causes the
hardware some stress.

I have an NVidia GeForce FX 5600 with dual monitors. The dell is plugged
into the digital out. It also does it in the analog out too. with one
monitor or two attached.
It happens only after Amarok has been started up..
widen Amarok to the length of the screen but make it
ok. this is gonna make me sound bad, but perhaps it will help those even
more clueless than I.
It was user error.
The Show: filter was set to Third Party Applications.
So I switched it to All Available Applications I see them all now. I'd
like to think that the upgrade set it to that, but I

as far as the upgrade, i chose the default entry whenever a dialog box came up.

I do notice on bootup, and it started about the time my mounted drive
statrted unmounting, When rebooting, right before it gets to the login
screen I see in the text that scrolls by - my 4 drives being listed out
and a red [fail] message to the right.

They are NTFS drives. They were staying mounted just fine until 2 days ago.
I'm not smart enough to run some command to do it. I think it happened after
the most recent kernel update. There were a lot of different updates flying
back forth. I didnt review them all.

I'm still a n00b, where is the Xorg.0.log?
FYI. I have since changed my screen resolution to 1280x1024 but have not tried
to reproduce the problem.
It was originally 1024x768.
since then i have removed beryl, and upon checking synaptic, i see that
compiz-extra is not installed.

I don't remember what every keystroke was, but I wasn't flitting around
to anything other than FF VMWare.
I had rebooted beacuse i was having computer issues. occasionally in
Feisty, for me, things just get unconfigured, like my VMWare did. I
don't move around folders or fuss with anything once

It looks like it has something to do with Desktop effects. I turned them
off the screen blanked refreshed. When all came back, lo behold I
