For this... I do not really know, but as usual, this is a trial an error
way, you must assume we all are working on the edge to get sound, and
sometimes these fixes may hose our laptops..

You can choose another distro like openSuSE or Mandriva where there are
no issues.

The new ACPI fix included in kernel, only works for bios =>3.80, your BIOS
version is not included. Iif uupgrading to Gutsy, I higly recommend you to
upgrade your BIOS. I your keeping feisty, then I see no harm in using it the
same one.

I'd noticed that the DSDT.aml was detected at boot time but assumed that it was
not being (sort of) recognized.
My workaround in mandriva was made winth NO custom DSDT.aml file just FYI. And

I've installed Mandriva 2008.0 (free) and the way I solved it in mandriva was
to add
acpi_osi=!Linux
at kernel boot time
I don't know if this will work in ubuntu but you do not loose anything trying

I've read in mandriva forums that this issue is fixed, and you must not even
use a custom dsdt file but there is no chance I canget to the desktop...

I just upgraded to 2.6.22-14-generic and I can confirm there is still no sound
with or without custom DSDT.
I konw there is a workaround, and I would be very nice if (even when I know
this will be fixed soon) someone explain us noobs how to get this patch working.
