The usplash.conf trick didn't work for me. X runs at 1280x1024, and that
was what was originally in /etc/usplash.conf. I tried 1024x768, 800x600,
640x480, and 720x400 (which is what the text console apparently runs
at). I tried doing sudo update-initramfs -u and sudo dpkg-reconfigure
usplash.

OK, I found out why it was only working during shutdown. I had linux-386
installed and grub now chooses that kernel to boot if it's installed.
update-initramfs was only updating the ramdrive for the linux-generic
kernel. So after removing the linux-386 kernel, I found that changing
usplash.conf so
I believe this is not related to bug 27837. There are two problems. One
seems to show up in dapper, another is showing up in edgy. The dapper
problem is that linux requires a boot option to set the resolution for
usplash to work under some configurations. The edgy problem is that
/etc/usplash.conf
you said this is fixed, so I'm closing it. Reopen if I'm mistaken.

I'm getting this, too. I have two Dell Precision workstations here with
Nvidia Quadro cards. One has an Intel Core 2 CPU, and the other has an
Intel Pentium 4. When I boot them with an edgy AMD64 CD, usplash
exhibits the problem. When I boot with an edgy i386 CD, usplash displays
perfectly. The
I'll just point out here that after upgrading to edgy, I'm no longer
experiencing this on the Thinkpad T22s. I did a sudo update-manager -c
-d and replaced all config files that had been changed. I haven't
fiddled with acpi or apic options.

Hmm... just had a problem, though it didn't freeze, the keyboard events
stopped being handled by X, though the mouse events kept working. I
could ssh in, but sudo wouldn't return, and system load was at 4 or 5,
while no processes were running. Checked the syslog after powering off

This probably has to do with the prism2 driver being re-enabled. On my
T30 with a minipci orinoco card, I was able to get it working by doing
this:
$ sudo modprobe -r orinoco_pci
$ sudo modprobe -r hostap_pci
$ sudo modprobe -r prism2_pci
$ sudo modprobe orinoco_pci

What's more, after checking on my compiz-enabled box, the screen no
longer fades out on logout under xserver-xgl. So for my two machines,
the patch reduces functionality where it didn't need to (nvidia-glx

I just upgraded my g4-based mac mini from dapper to edgy, and I can no
longer run gtk apps over ssh tunnels because they always crash. I can
run non-gtk apps, such as xterm just fine. Here's the output of running

firestorm: AthlonXP desktop with NVidia binary driver running compiz. 24 bit
display depth
phoenix: P4 Mobile laptop with opensource ATI drivers on a radeon 7500 running
metacity, 16 bit display depth
firefighter: P4 HT desktop running
And apps from a dapper/i386 Xclient work fine on the edgy/ppc Xserver.
And I'm quite sure that I was using dapper/ppc apps on edgy/i386

Installing gfs-tools drags in linux-image-2.6.15-23-server, even when
linux-image-2.6.15-26-server is installed
It looks like it's apt getting confused. Here's are two cases that I get
on my dapper box:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo apt-get install gfs-tools linux-server
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
linux-image-2.6.15-23-server
I think this is a symptom of the sound-related problems that flash has
(which cause browser hangs) or . Bug 14911 is about the visual problems

My brother emails me tiffs of magazine articles from work generated by
the scanning system they have in place there. They always have this
problem. He's not very tech-savvy, so he may not be able to configure
the system to generate proper tiffs.

This is going to be a big problem in edgy because the Composite
extension seems to be enabled by default.
Adding export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 to /etc/firefox/firefoxrc
should workaround the problem for now.

I can no longer reproduce this with either the latest or any earlier
kernels anymore. Perhaps an update to another package resolved this?
Anyway, it means I can now bring my sister's T22 up to Dapper, too.

Another possible solution from the terminal:
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libesd.so.0 /usr/lib/libesd.so.1
The flash plugin attempts to load the ESD library through the wrong
filename.
