Yes, please provide an easy to find method to switch it on. It took me some googling to find how to enable it, and it was not obvious at all, that it was intentionally disabled. It looked like a bug (on xfce, a window pops up: not authorized) And although I count myself as reasonably computer

Please reconsider. I am the author of the original patch and found out that it needed to be rewritten for xfce4-terminal-0.4.8. The crashes (segfault when closing the preferences dialog) are gone. Ubuntu uses a modified vte. And it is modified in a way that changes the default behaviour (bad).

I can confirm that the problem persists in oneiric with xfce4-terminal 0.4.8-1. However applying my old patch to the current source and installing the result fixed the problem for me. To recap: 1) Ubuntu compiles libvte (Source package vte) with some patches, one of them is the

Apparently, the patch didn't make it into karmic, and mouse scroll of curses applications (less etc.) still does not work. Adding the hidden Preference ScrollingAlternateScreen=TRUE does not work either, so the patch got dropped. Any chance to put it into an xfce4-terminal update? -- mouse
