However, with both versions of the script sound will stop working after
~30 seconds of inactivity. So it is not "sticky" in my case. An easy
workaround is to play an audio file on infinite loop with volume down to
zero. This will keep the speakers

I just tried your script, while a song was already playing, and I
instantly got sound on my speakers (both left and right).
While the script is running I can hear each side coming on. First left,
then right.
I also noticed that if switching to my bluetooth headphones, the

kernel. And even get the sound back, but only after a modification in
the patch. I noticed Mike created the patch for your machine, but named
it "Samsung Galaxy Book Ion (NT950XCJ-X716A)". This is incorrect because

I saw your were successful in applying the patch. I am trying to
reproduce here, but I struggled quite a bit with kernel
compile/installation. I am also a bit wary of breaking my entire system
as it is my daily driver.
On my latest attempt, I ended up with a running kernel 5.4.0-42,
linux-headers-5.8.1-050801_5.8.1-050801.202008111432 and booting with
secure boot disabled will not anything. Still no sound, and the command
workaround still works.
On a side note, the built-in mic does work as expected. So I use
bluetooth headphones for listening and built-in mic for speaking.
I can confirm that after installing the package `alsa-tools`, then the
following command will restore sound on headphones instantaneously:
sudo hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x1a SET_PIN_WIDGET_CONTROL 0x5
In the meantime I did try a newer kernel, linux-
I just installed a fresh Xubuntu 20.04 (Linux 5.4.0-42-generic) on my
brand new Samsung Galaxy Book Ion NT950XCJ-X716A. And of course I do
experience the issues described here: very low volume on headphones and
no sound on speakers.

Exactly same situation with Gandi.net provider. Issue could be diagnosed
thanks to Stephen explanation. And the solution was as simple as
switching kernel from 2.6.32-x86_64 to 3.10-x86_64 in gandi.net
administrative pages (in disk properties).

The following did not work for me:
sudo mv /usr/share/fonts/truetype/unfonts-core/UnDotum.ttf
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/unfonts-core/UnDotum.ttf.backup
Hoewever I successfully solved this issue with sudo apt-get remove
fonts-unfonts-core and can still write in Korean (but didn't reboot
yet).
On Ubuntu 12.04, experienced same issue:
$ sudo apt-get install phpunit
$ phpunit
PHP Warning: require_once(PHP/CodeCoverage/Filter.php): failed to open stream:
No such file or directory in /usr/bin/phpunit on line 38

Same problem on a fresh Ubuntu 11.10 using gnome 2 and ibus. I meant to
use ibus to type Korean but didn't get to set it up yet, so there is no
input methode selected. When I have ibus daemon running Netbeans loses
the keyboard. As soon as I quit ibus (right-click on the top-right icon
- quit),
Same on Ubuntu 11.04 and NetBeans IDE 7.0. The fix described in the blog
post resolved the issue after restarting NetBeans.

I dont think the bug is any different now that it used to be 4 years
ago. So the bug should stay open IMHO.
