Public bug reported:
I purged and reinstalled mlocate, then I edited /etc/updatedb.conf to
remove cifs from PRUNEFS so mlocate would index files on my local
server. Then I ran updatedb and it almost completely stalled out after a
minute or three regardless of priority (I tried 'nice -n -20). It st

sudo apt install pm-utils && sudo pm-hibernate
Hibernation did not work, I just booted as normal. My system uses LUKS

Seems to be broken again in mate 18.04 daily, circa Feb. 15, 2018. I
have never successfully saved a customized panel layout with mate-tweak,
it always has stalled out or crashed.

I just logged in to thank Mr. Ring, again, I know saying it doesn't add
any new information, it his advise made my life a log less annoying as I
was dragged kicking and screaming into KDE 5.
KDE seems to take great delight making icons incompatible from one major

Occasionally Firefox will download part of a multipart rar archive but
the download fails part way through for some reason without reporting
that the download had an issue. This will leave me with an archive file
with the correct name, but truncated, say 87MB instead of 100MB.
Simply starting empathy with 'empathy -h' didn't work for me. I didn't
try making it autostart. FWIW, this is an upgrade from Karmic via Lucid.

Just as a clarification, the "apt-get install -o APT::Immediate-
Configure=false --reinstall python-minimal" should be performed from
Lucid, then run the "do-release-upgrade -d"; I am not sure if I needed
this step, but I did it anyway and my upgrade worked.

You can keep the repository version installed and copy the downgraded
version of libflashplayer.so to ~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so to
re-enable flash. I've found at least on my rig disabling Hardware
Acceleration doesn't have much effect, nor does adding the line
"EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode
Unfortunately that didn't unwedge my system, and 'dpkg --configure
--pending' didn't help, either.

upgrading from lucid to precise fails
Seems to be broken again in 11.10. In 11.04 screen brightness was also
too low, but it could be fixed by adding lines to /etc/rc.local or
changing lines in /etc/default/grub, but that no longer works for me.

Had the same problem with two upgrades from Karmic to Lucid, I removed
libanyevent-perl and dvdrip with 'apt-get remove', and the upgrade
continued for a spell. Then I continued with my 'apt-get dist-upgradge'
normally. I had the same issue with autofs. Serves me right for having
bloated installs.
I did a distro upgrade from karmic to lucid without using the upgrade
manager. I just replaced karmic with lucid in my sources.list, updated,
and did a apt-get dist-upgrade. So medibuntu, partner, backports,
updates, restricted & multiverse were enabled during the upgrade as
well. I did this bec
