Same problem here on Averatec 3700 series.
I guess the problem is that X uses the BIOS for modesetting and the
Averatec BIOS reports 1680x1050 (max resolution of graphics chip) as the
highest possible resolution and not 1024x768 (max resolution of panel).

pstoedit writes temporary files in CWD and this fails if CWD is not

I am not sure if this is exactly the same problem, but I had similar
problems on R61.
I fixed the problem by adding a wait after resume. You can try my
solution by putting the attached script into /etc/acpi/resume.d
My acpi-support uses the default settings, i.e.
POST_VIDEO=true
I cannot tell if it is fixed on the notebook, that I noticed the problem
on, because I sold it.
However it works fine on Lenovo ThinkPad R61 NA11GGE, which is quite
similar.

Binary package hint: nautilus
When putting in an empty CD-R it is shown as CD-ROM-Medium on the
desktop and burning is not possible; however burning with wodim from the
command line works fine.
Output from lshal and list_cddrives with empty medium inserted is
attached.

Sorry, that was too early.
Connection dropped after about ~4 hours of use. dmesg messages same as
above.
However this time many programs stopped working after the disconnect,
i.e. sudo, login, ifconfig, iwconfig, etc. hung. However shutdown by
pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL in the text console was

error. The spaces in the paths are replaced by %20.
Manual importing works without problems.
