I'm experiencing the same behavior with a ZTE MF637.
If I remove /etc/resolv.conf and connect, NM will put DNS servers in it and
create another backup file. If the file exists already, it won't write the DNS
servers to it.
Should be noted that it doesn't work the first time for me, unlike the
+1 for moving the keyboard layouts to Ukraine, since there are 10 times more
Crimean Tatars than in Romania.
Please keep in mind that the Romanian keyboards are also meant for use in the
Republic of Moldova, where is no [known] Crimean Tatar minority.

Too many crimean tatar keyboard layouts
Tested on Karmic - it doesn't work. Debug output:

Nope, there are no interfaces at this stage, and nm-modem-probe has
nothing to do with CD-ROMs.
A little background:
When ZeroCD devices are plugged in, they are not modems at all. They appear as
real CD-ROM drives, with data on them. No interfaces, no modems. USB IDs (e.g.
for ZTE MF series)
Karmic still doesn't switch 3G devices, because udev is missing rules
for this.

3g Device must be manually switched before usage

You received
It is possible to switch Zero-CD devices automatically. For this, udev
needs a rule that sends the eject command to the device.
For ZTE MF6xx devices (19d2:2000 in CD-ROM mode), the following rule is
all that is needed to do mode-switching (tested in Karmic):
SYSFS{idVendor}==19d2,
It did solve the problem, but it's just one problem out of a million :)
You have another one:
Jul 19 11:29:25 florent-laptop NetworkManager: WARN check_pin_done(): PIN
checking failed to many times
Insert your modem's SIM card in a cell phone and remove the PIN, as you
would normally
This application was not supposed to be on the CD. It has been removed.
On the other hand, there is usb-creator-kde:

The invalid parity is harmless.
Wrong mtu, mru, baud, bits and stop-bits are the issue (in the bug
description). This prevents NM from properly initializing the modem. Please
edit your connection settings file, located in
~/.kde/share/apps/networkmanagement/connections

The system froze after starting Kontact. It is likely that my 3G modem
caused the oops.
Alt+SysRq+RSEIUB worked this time, which makes this different from bug
