I have managed to determine that the problem only happens with madwifi
drivers loaded, and not when they are disabled. Thus, this seems like
it could be a madwifi issue - though it could be wireless/networkmanager
in general.

only one mouse button), the default trackpad settings - quite frankly -
leave a lot to be desired, and I can't configure it as-is without

In my experience, changing the DPI does have an effect . However, what I'm
finding is that even with the *correct* DPI values, the fonts can be way too
big.
In my case, using the correct value (112 dpi) causes my MacBook to have fonts

I seem to be experiencing a related issue - when I tried manual partitioning in
Tribe 2, it hung just after I tried to make changes to the partitions.

In Ubuntu Gutsy on my MacBook, the default font size/DPI for Gnome is
wrong.
In the case of running on the MacBook hardware natively, this means
extremely large fonts - with Gnome defaulting to 112 dpi.
In the case of running on VMware Fusion with the same resolution, this

settings, rather than too small. Changing the DPI from the real screen DPI
(which should work) to 96 makes the fonts tolerable, but they are still
quite big. I think this tends to happen on some screen geometries, and
OK - I've managed to fix this for all OSs, and in all cases.
Make the following changes to the default Xorg.conf:
1. Change
Option SendCoreEvents true
in the Synaptics section to
Option CorePointer
2. Change
InputDevice Configured Mouse
at the end of the file to

In the synaptics driver, there is an option to make two-finger tap
right-click. Could this be enabled by default? It is used on Macs
commonly, and would be quite helpful in this case (with only one mouse

I can confirm that the caps lock does not work on Gutsy on my MacBook
with mouseemu installed (and does work without it installed). I suggest
we disable this and just use the synaptics driver's advanced trackpad
functions for right-clicks (and maybe xkbmap).

I managed to fix this by changing the SendCoreEvents line in xorg.conf to
Option CorePointer
Then I get better acceleration...
This only works on Gutsy, though - it breaks the trackpad on Feisty...
Can we get a fix in Gutsy?

When mouseemu is used - which it is in default installs on the MacBook - the
F11 and F12 keys are used by default as middle-click and right-click.
This is a very odd and unintuitive choice for a default - most users don't
expect to use F keys

I have figured out the fix to this issue.
Apparently, the default xorg.conf has a line which interferes with changes in
acceleration.
Changing the line:
Option SendCoreEvents true
to
Option CorePointer
cures the issue.
Is there any way this can be made the default?
