Ok, so it's a problem with fltk-config which lies bundled in the package
"libfltk1.1-dev". Apparently this isn't installed as default in 11.04,
to fix this, install "libfltk1.1-dev" using synaptic then download alsa-
tools from the site suggested by "Patrick le Roux", http://www.alsa-
project.org/s
Can confirm this too, have been trying to reinstall hdspmixer but cannot
find any files anywhere, everything else is working, shouldn't this do
the trick?.

There must have been a misunderstanding here. I’m not going to support
my patches on GNOME 3. In fact, they are not needed there, as there is
the hook framework.
When time allows, I will update my PPA for Natty, but only because Natty
was released with GNOME 2. (And I understand them — GNOME 3 is
The released ubuntu-11.04-desktop-amd64.iso does not boot from flash
drive with the noveau driver. I had to go through the steps described
earlier to be able to boot from flash to hi-res Unity mode using nvidia
glx driver.
After installation from the flash and rebooting the display stays
garbled.
A correction for step 3): Instead of sudo usb-created-gtk run
sudo usb-creator-gtk

In GNOME, they decided that it is more appropriate to provide a hook
that will run a user-customizable script when an input device is added
or removed. The xinput or synclient invocations shown above can be added
to this hook. So, for all intents and purposes, this bug can be
