same thing here on a lucid install.
there is no .gnumericrc file present in my home.
i did not check about gconf settings.
however: as a workaround you can go to main menu - tools - plug-ins...
- plugin-in list - activate all
after that the list of graphs was populated for me.

This is still an Issue with Jaunty. I did a _clean_ install, and was able to
fix it with
gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/gnumeric.

Sounds like all of the plugins have been disabled bhy the upgrade. You
can re-enable them manually from the menus.
However, I'd be interested in a repeatable sample of how to get into a
state that disables them. Please upstream this with a copy of the
.gnumericrc

I did a fresh install of Gutsy a while ago, but I copied over my .gnome2
folder (including gconf) and others from my old Feisty* installation.
This seems to have caused the no plots problem for me as well, but
running that gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/gnumeric command
fixed it for me.

I have had the same problem, both under Gnome and KDE.
What's interesting was: I used Gusty Gibbon 7.10 tribe 5 before the official
release came out. Gnumeric worked perfectly then and after an automatic upgrade
(which might not have involved Gnumeric at all?).
But recently, I did a fresh
I'm marking this as triaged. I've no idea on how to fix this.

I did a fresh install of Gutsy and have a similar problem .. maybe
they're related. If the .gnumericrc exists in my home dir, I can't
create plots. Also, I can't see plots in previously saved files.
Deleting the .gnumericrc fixes this for the next gnumeric session.

I have the problem reported above.
Have tried gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/gnumeric without sucess
Likewise purging (apt-get purge gnumeric) gnumeric, autoremoving (apt-
get autoremove) and reinstalling (apt-get install gnumeric) appears to
fix the problem

I just figured out that it must be related to the upgrade from feisty.
Pleople with fresh installs seem not to be affected by this, and I was able to
fix it with gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/gnumeric. So I guess Gnumeric
fails on an old setting that the new version can't cope with.
