xserver-xgl has been deprecated upstream, and removed from Intrepid.

My laptop is Aspire 3100 that have ATI radeon xpress 1100.
I'm using desktop effects now after below.
1. uninstall "xserver-xgl" and any fglrx packages. and reboot.
2. install fglrx-amdccle , fglrx-control, xorg-driver-fglrx.
3. edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and enable Composite Option.

I get this too, but only for non-admin users. After examining
~/.xsession-errors, I discovered the fix is to add users to the "video"
group.
sudo adduser video
If this doesn't fix it, then my bug is different and I'll file it
separately.

After login in under a failsafe GNOME session I am able to get a desktop with
xserver-xgl installed. Here I am able to run al the glx tools with succes from
the command line, but when exiting each of these tools I get the following
error:

I can confirm this bug on Dell Inspiron 6400 with Ati Mobility X1300 graphics
card with an Ubuntu Hardy Heron install updates until 28-01-2008.
When installing xserver-xgl packages I can login, but only see a blank screen
and an arrow, nothing more.
