@Tim I do not think you have the same problem. I see some errors which
look like debconf is attempting to prompt you about something but
failing to find a frontend to use for the prompt. Possibly this is the
cause, but I'm not sure. You can try running the upgrade like this:

FYI: For testing, I downgraded my integration test server from Ubuntu
20.04 to 18.04 and `apt-get upgrade -y` is running smoothly.

Hey,
I'm running a Ubuntu 20.04 on a CX11 Hetzner instance for daily
integration tests of an app that I'm developing. And since Jan 18, 2021,
the command to setup my machine `apt-get update -y` gets stuck with no
error message. I found this bug while searching online and thought the
coincidence
The problem appears to be a failed sync when regenerating the initrd.
Looking through the attached dmesg I see a lot of disk-related errors.
This could indicate a kernel bug or potentially a hardware problem. This
is not directly a problem in linux-firmware, reassigning to linux.
